Dinan & Area: A Journey Through Time and Beauty

Dinan is picturesque walled medieval city with wonderful cobbled streets, half-timbered buildings and 3k of ramparts which give stunning views over the Rance Valley.

Maison Cachée is based in the charming river port area (actually on the Lanvallay side of the Rance) where walkers and diners in the street cafés overlook the yachts and motorboats – and the sculls from the local rowing club.

Rue de Jerzual – one the most photographed streets in the region – snakes up from the port flanked by a local galleries, studios, cafés and ice cream parlours – ideal for a rest as you wind you way to town.

You will pass through the city gates and into the town centre with its plethora of restaurants, cafés and bars catering for any purse or palate. There is so much to look at and do – the Tour de l’Horloge, the Château de Dinan (which is featured on the Bayeux Tapestry), the Thursday market and so many historic gems. Or you could simply sit in a pavement café and watch the world go by.

You can return home to Maison Cachée via the Petite Cité Caractère of Léhon with its stunning abbey ,and along the Rance where you might glimpse the turquoise flash of a Kingfisher or a Coypu padding through the water.

Maison Cachée is a short drive from a range of fantastic beaches scattered along north coast. They can be quiet and isolated for long peaceful walks, or in town centres such as St Malo and Dinard – both very well worth a visit.

Rennes – the capital of Brittany – lies to the south and has one the finest weekly food markets in France.
